Winners of Design Awards

Eastleigh Care Home in Minehead has scooped the ‘Best Development Revival Project Award’ at this year’s Pinders Healthcare Design Awards.

A £2.9 million extension built by Gadd Construct with construction phase design by Burritt Holland Architects and was completed during 2006.  The new building was designed to compliment the existing elaborate Victorian building, and is stone clad with matching hanging tiles.  Balconies and bay windows complete the Victorian feel.

Sitting in stunning landscaped gardens the home provides both nursing and residential care to its 65 residents and has a range of facilities including a library equipped with computers and internet connection, and a gym including showers and a sauna.

Pinders judges visited Eastleigh, after they passed an initial assessment of written entries, looking for design innovation, aesthetic quality and suitability for the residents and staff of the home.

The award was presented to staff at a glittering awards ceremony held at Lords Cricket Ground in London.  After presenting the awards, judges remarked that the extension was an incredible match with the original property and was a clear example of resident-centred design with a personal touch.

Garry Wilson, Managing Director of Eastleigh Care Homes said ‘We are delighted to have been presented this prestigious award that recognises the best developments in the long term care sector.  We are proud to be able to offer much-needed facilities from such a luxury building, where residents can be certain of stability and continuity and where they are looked after by caring and qualified staff.  We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our staff and suppliers for their continued support’

As regional winner of the award, Eastleigh Care Home was awarded £500 for charity, which staff and residents chose St Margaret’s Hospice in Taunton, and a further £1500 for the benefit of their residents.
